FCMB has increased the maximum amount customers can access through its FastCash instant loan to ₦500,000, giving eligible account holders more room to deal with short-term financial needs.
The change is worth paying attention to because borrowing in Nigeria is becoming increasingly digital. Instead of visiting a banking hall, filling out several forms and waiting for approval, FCMB customers can apply for FastCash through the bank’s mobile app or USSD service.
FCMB’s official FastCash page currently lists the maximum loan amount as ₦500,000. It also says the facility is available 24/7, does not require collateral or a guarantor, and can be accessed through the FCMB Mobile App or *329*11#.
FCMB FastCash now offers up to ₦500,000
The new ₦500,000 ceiling means eligible FCMB customers may be able to borrow more than they could previously through FastCash.
This is designed mainly for short-term needs rather than long-term financing. For example, someone dealing with an unexpected bill or a temporary cash shortage may find the digital loan useful if they qualify.
But there is an important point here: ₦500,000 is the maximum, not a guaranteed amount for every customer.
The amount a customer can actually receive depends on FCMB’s assessment and account activity.
FCMB says customers need to have maintained an account with the bank for at least three months to be considered. The bank also considers how customers use their accounts when determining eligibility.
You don’t need to visit an FCMB branch
This is probably the part many customers will find most interesting.
FastCash is built to work through FCMB’s digital banking channels. Customers can apply through the mobile app or by dialing *329*11#.
According to FCMB, the facility does not require paperwork, collateral or a guarantor. The bank also says the application and disbursement can take less than five minutes for eligible customers.
That makes the service particularly convenient when someone needs a relatively small amount quickly and does not want to start a traditional loan application.
Who can get the ₦500,000 FCMB FastCash loan?
Don’t assume that having an FCMB account automatically means you can borrow ₦500,000.
FCMB’s requirements show that the facility is intended for eligible existing customers. The bank says an account must have been maintained for at least three months, while frequent transactions can help with eligibility.
So, if you’re already an FCMB customer, your account history matters.
The bank also allows some eligible customers to request an additional FastCash loan if they have not already used their maximum approved amount.
How long do you have to repay?
FCMB says returning eligible customers can receive a repayment period of up to 90 days, or about three months.
This is where I think customers need to slow down before tapping the loan button.
A higher loan limit can be useful, but it does not mean you should borrow the full ₦500,000 simply because it is available.
Before accepting any loan, check the total amount you will repay, the repayment date and all applicable charges shown by the bank.
The smartest way to use a short-term loan is to have a clear reason for taking it and a realistic plan for paying it back.
How to apply for FCMB FastCash
For eligible FCMB customers, the process is digital.
You can:
- Open the FCMB Mobile App.
- Go to the loan section and select FastCash.
- Check your available offer and the terms presented to you.
- Follow the instructions to complete the application.
FCMB also provides a USSD option by dialing *329*11# and selecting FastCash.
The exact amount offered to you may be different from the ₦500,000 maximum.
The bigger story is digital borrowing
For me, the more interesting part of this announcement is not just the ₦500,000 figure.
It shows how quickly borrowing is moving into the same mobile banking environment Nigerians already use for transfers, airtime, bills and other everyday transactions.
Banks and digital lenders are competing for customers who want access to money without the traditional loan process taking too long.
That means customers now have more digital borrowing options, but it also means they need to pay more attention to the cost of borrowing.
A loan being easy to access does not automatically make it cheap.
How FCMB customers can take advantage of the new limit
If you’re already an FCMB customer and genuinely need short-term financing, the higher limit gives you another option to consider.
But I would not recommend borrowing ₦500,000 just because the new limit exists.
Instead, check your available offer inside the official FCMB channels and compare the repayment amount with what you can comfortably afford.
For someone running a small business, for instance, short-term financing could potentially help cover a temporary cash-flow gap. For a personal expense, the same loan should be approached even more carefully because the money still has to be repaid.
The opportunity here is access, not free money.

My take
FCMB raising FastCash to ₦500,000 is good news for customers who already use the bank and occasionally need access to short-term credit.
The biggest advantage is the convenience. You don’t have to start by visiting a branch or preparing a pile of documents.
But convenience should not replace caution.
If FCMB offers you the full ₦500,000, look at the repayment terms first. If you only need ₦100,000, there is little reason to take ₦500,000 simply because it is available.
For now, the move gives FCMB customers another digital financing option at a time when quick access to credit is becoming an increasingly important part of mobile banking in Nigeria.
